I’ve never been on a hen weekend before, but tomorrow I’m off to Bristol to enjoy a couple of nights out, a pole dancing lesson, spa treatment and hopefully some good honest girly silliness! All in aid of my good friend Manda’s impending nuptuals.

I’ve recently been hooked on the latest version of Sherlock Holmes, three 1.5 hour films from the BBC which put a brand new spin on the old Arthur Conan Doyle books. In the series, if you missed it, the brilliant Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman play Sherlock & Dr Watson respectively, fighting crime as ‘consultant detectives’ living and working in modern-day London.

For someone like myself who’s relatively new to Sherlock Holmes (apart from Guy Richie’s high budget flick) this series was a great introduction.  Fast paced, witty and dialogue driven, the script was the perfect platform for Benedict Cumberbatch’s cutting, “quirky genius” character (who, I suspect had a few ladies swooning).

Martin Freeman reliably provided his usual “comedy underdog” performance as Dr Watson – acting as the perfect foil to Sherlock’s quick mind and even quicker wit.

All this, combined with some interesting visual techniques (like text overlaid across the action – giving us insight into Sherlock’s mind), and a few good villains made Sherlock a must-see every Sunday.

Another series has been commissioned – more than 3 next time I hope!

I broke a habit of a lifetime today and actually went for a jog at lunchtime! Rose and two other Kitcatt-ers joined me for a slow but steady (mainly because of me!) 4-5K , done in just over 35 minutes. It’s somewhere to start though, hopefully we’ll keep it up.

Anyway  - the picture above caught my eye when I was trying to plot how far we’d gone – check out the cool shadows of the buildings along the Thames. I’ve never noticed that before on Google Maps.
